ACCOUNTABILITY WE CAN DEPEND ON

Community Pride:

Create an open dialogue within the community

We deserve to live in a respectable, clean and healthy environment for all community members

District B residents take pride in our neighborhoods. As a member of City Council, Alyson will mobilize our community and secure the resources necessary to ensure that both the residential and commercial areas of District B are respectable, clean, and healthy for all of us.

She will identify what has been working in these areas and what has not been, and then implement strategies to bring improvement where it’s needed.

Our children need safe and clean areas to play. No one wants to see trash in our streets, especially when it poses a public health threat. Alyson believes that together, the hard-working people of District B can make our community a model for the entire Houston area.

Increase Community awareness and participation on city issues/policies that affect the district

Alyson’s office will know and listen to the people she serves. Communities should know and have access to their representatives. District B candidate Alyson and her office will hold regular town halls and meetings in our neighborhoods throughout her tenure.

Inspire a greater sense of respect for personal property

For generations, the bedrock of the American dream has been home ownership. Owning a home builds a financial foundation for your family and instills a sense of pride that can be passed down from parent to child.

Under Alyson’s leadership, District B residents will receive opportunities to build paths to home ownership no matter your background. Alyson believes we can further strengthen District B through instilling a greater sense of pride and respect for our personal property, as well as for that of others.

She will accomplish this through educational programs on the resources available for home ownership and a more thorough understanding of the value of owning property. In addition, she will work with residents to monitor and reduce vandalism, maintain better lawns, and identify resources to help increase the curb appeal of our homes and businesses.

Develop workforce opportunities to reach the youth

Investing in schools and workforce opportunities for our kids will make our communities safer. Giving youth outlets after school creates career opportunities and reduces crime. Evidence shows us that the path to a better future is education for what our youth are bound to face as they mature, not idle hands.

Present Pollution/Contamination Awareness Support our local EPA in holding polluters accountable.

We owe it to ourselves and our children to keep District B be as pollution-free as possible. In addition to keeping our residential areas free of trash and debris, we must also focus on corporate pollution and contamination of our community.

Alyson will take an inventory of any brownfield land, which are areas that were or may have been previously polluted, and work with experts to develop a plan with clear and attainable goals to bring these areas back to a level of cleanliness that welcomes new residents and businesses.

Alyson will ensure that all businesses both big and small do their part to keep District B as free of pollution and trash as possible. This includes holding businesses that affect our community accountable to EPA standards and compliance.

Assess the Long term health effects

Putting a face on a problem always brings the issue home in a real and tangible way. Alyson will commission a study to determine the long-term health effects of brownfield land and other pollution in District B. She will identify specific instances of harm caused to residents, and use that data and those real life stories to develop a plan to reverse harmful trends where they are discovered and restore contaminated parts of our communities to a state of cleanliness and healthiness for all of our residents.

Convert current brownfield lands into usable real estate.

Promote open space and sustainable communities. We need to strike a balance of growing our economy while at the same time preserving the open space, park land, and development that makes District B beautiful.
